DCS: Feature Creep - Coming 2017! #5567

"We have determined that the DCS World 2.5 update will not be available in 2016 as we had earlier hoped. This is mainly due to additional work needing to be done of the Caucasus map update, and we don’t feel it can be accomplished within the next two months at a high level of quality. Before we can complete this map update, we first need to finalize and release both the Nevada map update and the Normandy map. Those, along with the Spitfire, are now our highest priorities. Once the Nevada update and the Normandy map tasks are complete, our map team can return to the Caucuses map and move the 2.5 closer to an Open Beta release."

Cauc map update, why is that delaying things...? Normandy? Yay! High level feature creep as well! 2.5 engine updates? Cool, but can we have that one thing everyone has asked for?

Unified install - You know, the thing that somebody MODDED INTO 2.0, LAST FREAKING YEAR!

Good job ED! Good, ****ing job.

Saltman out.

P.S.

"As with the DCS World 2.5 update, it was also decided last week that the Hornet Early Access will be pushed beyond our original desire to release by the end of this year. As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we are now very busy coding the various cockpit systems and flight dynamics. However, as this work continues and we acquire new information, the level of complexity has become more apparent and it will take more time than first estimated."

At least this is confirmed, though.

The only improvement in the last 3 years is they now tell us there has been no improvements.

DCS: Feature Creep - Coming 2017! #5578
Normandy map?! First I heard of it, I'm glad Sweeper reads those things and keeps us informed.

I don't know. Despite it probably working better than any other sim, I have trouble thinking of DCS as a WWII scenario development platform, with all this focus on Bf 109s and Spitfires. Korea and henceforth I can understand, but it causes me a bit of "discomfort" to think that devs are not concentrating on a good SEA, Med, or Iran/Iraq map and getting an F-4, F-111 and MiG 19 out there. However, that's a personal opinion. I'm sure I am alone, and they know what they are doing.

The other night chatting, pyro seemed to know something about the Hormuz map being released along with "that which we are all waiting for". That would be nice.

:)

Interesting post from Ed today on FB;
"Hello pilots! A lot of you have been asking about which airfields will be included in Normandy. Here is an image from the Mission Editor in which you can see all the Normandy airfields in France. Note that the map is still very much a work-in-progress."

This must be post-D-Day Normandy, right? Or why the hell are there like 30 airfields crammed within a few miles of the landing site and then absolutely nothing everywhere else? And where the hell are the Germans going to fly from?

I was hoping for some cross-channel action or Battle of Britain stuff, though I am aware that I have absolutely no sense of the actual area involved. It could definitely be way too big to fit in a single map for DCS, but I'm hoping they used some kind of zoomed-in screenshot here and we do get at least a little bit of the British shoreline.

On the ED page, they apparently replied to a similar comment saying this was only the French portion...indicating more cross channel maybe?

Off the top of my head; you'd need at least Hawkinge, Lympne, and Biggin Hill. Northweald would be nice (for me), as my dad flew from there as AG in 25 Sqn Blenhiems during the Battle of Britain, lol, but it is a bit too far north to be included. Also, DCS does not have the correct aircraft for the scenario; Spitfire Mk I or II, Bf 109E, Hurricane Mk I or II, Boulton Paul Defiant, Bristol Blenhiem, Heinkel 111, Junkers Ju. 87, Junkers Ju. 88 and Dornier Do. 17. If they get that little gaggle together, I'll be extremely interested.

It looks definitely post D-Day, and fits the current and planned WWII aircraft DCS has on offer.

A Hurricane would be nice, period. Is anyone making one? I don't recall seeing that on any 3rd-party developer's "unreasonably long and wishfully-thought list of projects that will not release before everyone but Sweeper has died of old age, and even Sweeper won't be able to enjoy them because of his recent stroke and he can't find a good spot for stick/throttle placement alongside his catheter bag in the hospital bed." But then again, some of those lists are so long I may have missed it.

In my first flight sim, MS: Combat Flight Simulator, I always liked the Hurricane most. I don't remember why, and I do remember understanding that the Spit was the better plane, but for some reason I tended to prefer the Hurricane.

LOL! No hope for me then!

Yeah, the Hurricane was the RAF's standard fighter at the time, transitioning to the Spit. The Spit Mk.I and II was only marginally better at high altitude, at this point. "Legend" has it that Mitchell's elliptical wing design made it more maneuverable. Not entirely true; the elliptical wing, to an extent, mimicked high aspect ratio wing performance at the tips while not sacrificing the design strength of low aspect ratio at the root. Therefore, it was somewhat more resistant to high load factor departure from laminar flow.

I'd settle for a Ju. 88 with multi-crew, lol!

PS: I heard a lot about MS Combat Sim, but it was at the time that "life was in the way" for me. :D

PPS: Just noted that from the previous list, I'd forgotten the Me. Bf 110. I blame old age...
