Operation Datwi Shield - An F99th ArmA/DCS Campaign #9440
January 2020
Operation Datwi Shield
(Datwi - "Bear" in Georgian)
Introduction:
These missions are the beginning of a series intended to mimic a campaign-style story executed as foot soldiers in ArmA and aviators in DCS. Given the requirements of building a scripted cooperative mission, we unfortunately do have to implement an “RSVP” system for participants and are unlikely to be able to accommodate new people on the fly. If you are interested in participating, please make sure you sign up ahead of time so that we can be sure that our missions are adequately prepared. One of the goals of these missions is to exercise some skills that are often neglected in the day-to-day DCS goings-on and highlight things that real-life combat aviators deal with regularly. The intended tone is a little more serious than some other events, but of course we wouldn’t be doing any of this unless we wanted to have fun. At the same time, playfully colliding with your wingman and taking his wing off will screw up our ability to successfully complete our objectives so maybe just for now..

Requirements:
All participants must sign-up ahead of time, see roster of available slots in post below.
For those participating in the ArmA mission, prerequisites include downloading a collection of mods conveniently bundled up and available through the Steam workshop:
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1149374729
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1639461636
For those participating in the DCS mission, there are some prerequisite skills you may want to brush up on before go time.

- All pilots must be prepared to deal with the night-time environment, NVGs are available but familiarity with the various navigation tools available in each platform is highly recommended. SRS is being used, be sure to have it configured and learn how to use your aircraft's radio equipment in conjunction with SRS ahead of time.
- F/A-18C pilots will air start, need to aerial refuel from a KC-135 basket tanker, fly low-level nap of the earth en-route to target, should be familiar with AGM-65F and buddy-lazed GBU-12 utilization, and should be ready to defend friendly forces from air threats if necessary.
- AV-8B pilots must be familiar with short take-off procedures for use on the USS Tarawa, fly low-level nap of the earth en-route to target, and should be familiar with TPOD, laser, and AGM-65G utilization.
- A-10C pilots are tasked with a separate CAS mission in a nearby town but should be prepared to assume AFAC duties if necessary.
- UH-1H slots are reserved for players who may be shot down and are used for CSAR efforts in recovery of their lost pilot.
