Base Evacuations For Matthew #5251
First post, I wanted to share this video I found from the recent evacuations for Hurricane Matthew. Looks like they started a few days before and moved more stuff as impact became more probable. Good quality, 1080p60. Footage shot from the ramp.

Yeah, its not really that fun if you are getting the planes out only about an hour and a half before the hurricane hits... Hurricane Francis in 2004: When the jets were halfway to Wright-Pat they said "If you are not on watch then you are free to leave the area if you want, just let the command know where you are going"... less than an hour before the storm hits. That's just enough time to get stuck in the traffic heading west out of town when the storm hits. I just went home, parked the truck away from the tall trees, taped and opened the windows a bit, filled the bathtub and any jugs I could find with water, got drunk and banged the GF.
Five hours later, after not losing power or water at my apartment, we went sightseeing, probably not the best idea but... lots of flooding, Marinas underwater and loose boats floating along the St Johns river and getting stuck on the Buckman Bridge, houses missing roofs, trees in the road, power lines down on the other side of the river... and we didn't even get hit head on. We did find a Whataburger that was still open and it was mmm mmm good! The Jets flew back in the next day and it was business as usual again with the exception of all the boats washed up on NAS Jax.

Nice, surveying hurricane damages during and after a storm is always interesting. I enjoy atmosphere physics and meteorology in general and never want to evacuate and miss a good storm.
