The F-111 would be a day one insta-buy if someone were to develop a module for it. It is one of the jets I remember seeing a lot of when I was young.

...and it didn't officially have the name Aardvark until its USAF decommissioning ceremony in 1996.

Some memories there, Lakenheath, from Dorado to Desert Storm was exactly the time period I was in England, in that particular area. Knew quite a lot of servicemen from both Laky and Mildenhall. They were very fond of the RAFGSA, lol!

If it were in DCS? Hehe, wouldn't get me out of it...

I was in England from 85-88 because my dad was stationed at RAF Fairford. We lived on RAF Little Rissington and would regularly take trips to RAF Upper Heyford. My freshman year of High School was at RAF Croughton. I saw a lot of F-111E's and EF-111A's at Upper Heyford. Also went to RAF Lakenheath with my dad to visit one of his AF buddies and got to see an F-111F up close while we were there. I remember seeing the KC-10's at Fairford for El Dorado Canyon the day before the mission and wondered what they were doing there because all we usually saw at Fairford were KC-135's... not a line full of KC-10's.

I remember the buzz about the KC-10s. I grabbed by bike and went to have a look. On the way there was a procession of hippy-like people holding up posters of that miss-drawn Volkswagen logo thing. As what was going on wasn't clear, I believe they thought it was the beginning of operations against the Block, the Cold War still being very much on.



Edit: Just reread your post, and I had missed that you mentioned the KC-10s at Fairford. The ones I went to have a look at were at Mildenhall, for the same operation.

You've gotta watch that Great Planes episode that Vampyre linked, then you'll see what I'm on about.

Plus instead of ejection seats, the F-111 has an ejection cockpit (because of the likelihood of ejecting at high speed and low altitude where there's no time slow down). Tell me that isn't awesome.
