My cousin's house burned to the ground today. He was thawing a frozen water line and went inside to ask his wife to try the water, when he went back a fire had started and the extinguisher he had wasn't enough to put it out.
He and his wife watched their house burn down before their eyes. Nobody was hurt though, their kids were in school.

Jeez, that's tragic. Please excuse my ignorance (I live in the tropics, so don't know); how do you go about thawing a water pipe for that to happen?

@Cygon, thank you as well. Usually frozen pipes are thawed using a tiger torch. I have no idea if that's what he was using but it's likely he was using some type of open flame. With such cold dense air fires are practically unstoppable ones hot.

we just had a house-fire right down the street from me (next block over)

melted the house next door:
