VIZIO P502UI-B1E 50” 4K Ultra HD Full-Array LED Smart TV with Wi-Fi
$529.99
via woot.com
I'm currently on a 40" LED TV.. but was thinking of getting one of these guys.. what am I looking at in terms of performance? I assume the vid card would have to work harder to render something on one of these? True?
I mean if it has 4 times the number of pixels that a 1080p screen has.. wouldn't I need more power to get the same FPS I do now??

yes, and you will also need 4 times the memory of your video card due to the resolution being 4 times as much, size means nothing, its pixel count and framerate that takes its toll. you should need at LEAST a 4 gig card to push it and even after that, keeping the frame rate up will be difficult, if you do decide to go with a SLI / Crossfire setup, for one the game must support that feature (dunno if it does) and also the memory available for the setup is equal to the smaller card's memory, even if they are both 4 gig memory cards, your total video memory is only 4 gigs cause the data must be shared between both cards. im not as familiar with current gen cards, but i do know next generation cards are working on massive onboard memory, talking around 4-6 gigs onboard standard up to 16 gigs top end supposidly
Also another thing to note is the Hertz rating on the screen - higher = better. i remember the HD TV craze back about 5 years ago, everyone was buying 1080 resolution screens but not getting the 120 hz processor with them, their result was a 60 fps cap on everything, also they were only capable of being 1080I not P. I = interlaced, which means the screen loads every other horizontal line as it goes down, then goes back and loads the ones it skipped before. While P = Progressive, the screen would load the top line and the next line down, and so on till the bottom, which made for a much smoother viewing experience and less jagged lines. Blu Rays looked so much smoother on a 120 hz screen vs a 60.
id much rather go smaller total size with a higher frame rate anyday
heres a website screen tester thats useful to visualize and test your screen

nope, its 4x roughly, something being twice as tall and twice as long means the total area is 4 times larger
Think of a rectangle thats 1 block tall and 2 blocks wide, and make another one thats 2 blocks tall and 4 blocks wide, and count the boxes you made, total area is 4 times the smaller one, thats the resolution difference
1920X1080 = 1080P
3840X2160 = 4K
so yea its twice as tall and wide
My resolution 2560X1440, is basically twice that of a 1080 TV, and im running it on a GTX670 with 2 gigs of memory, and it struggles with DCS on moderate settings, i keep tactical details high so i can tell if its a treeline in the distance, but other settings i have low to balance it out, but yea, ill need a new card before i go any bigger, and its usage is maxed out on video memory, all 2 gigs. that and im running my monitor at 96 hz vs standard 60 for normal computer monitors, so its making twice the resolution of 1080 - standard HD + about 50% more for the framerate increse from 60 to 96

My setup until recently was 3 x 40" LED TV's - When I moved, I let two of them go to other rooms of the house so I'm down to 1..(first world problems eh? )
But when I had the 3.. my desktop was 5700 x 1080
My current card pushed that ok.. def not as smooth as the single monitor, but it was easily playable.
Current card is a GTX 780.
Also per the last video for DCS 2 I watched (vampyre posted in another thread) DCS2 will come with SLI support which is not currently supported.

I was going to purchase a 3-monitor setup although I was pretty darn sure that I would need to update my AMD GPU for that. So I held off but I'm sorta glad because The Oculus Rift is scheduled to hit the streets 1st quarter 2016. At only around $350.00 U.S seems like a deal, well If it works well and has capable Resolution I will buy it. If its a let down perhaps upgrade to a 4K setup.
