You know what, I think it was in that FA interview with the F-16/MiG-29 pilot...

It does have more power and a LERX to help it attain more alpha but it is also heavier as well. The F-5E's performance should be better than a T-38A but not too significantly so. All things being equal, the Tomcat should wipe the floor with the F-5E in every scenario.
